MURAL is a digital workspace designed to support creative visual collaboration. The platform is currently used by over 90% of the Fortune 100. In July 2021, the company raised a $200 million Series C that valued it at more than $2 billion.
MURAL is a rapidly growing scaleup that grew exponentially during the pandemic and the adoption of remote work, as teams everywhere underwent a digital transformation using the MURAL® platform to power their visual collaboration.
With more open reqs than ever, MURAL’s VP of Talent Acquisition, Yvette Kamperin, had to scale the organization, while continuing to find and hire great people. In order to meet their goals and stay competitive in a candidate’s market, it was clear that they needed to implement process changes, and find creative ways for hiring managers, interviewers, and recruiters to get on the same page quickly.
Yvette turned to BrightHire to help the MURAL team transform its hiring process.
High-volume roles fill the MURAL team’s calendars with multiple interviews every day. With recruiters and interviewers spending time in back-to-back interviews, remembering the nuances of each conversation proved challenging.
BrightHire enabled leaders across MURAL to watch interview highlights asynchronously before moving candidates forward in the hiring process. The interview reviews allowed key stakeholders to weigh-in quickly before scheduling full interviews, and helped them get buy-in to move faster with the best candidates. Yvette and functional leaders at MURAL could now better assess a candidate’s fit and capabilities and ensure that only high-quality candidates advanced to the next round. Recruiters also learned more about what hiring managers were looking for in candidates. As a result, they moved fewer unqualified candidates to the next stage, and hiring managers saved valuable time by avoiding unnecessary interviews.
With hours of BrightHire interview footage at their fingertips, interviewers can reflect on their own conversations, and leaders can coach recruiters and hiring managers to improve their interviewing skills. As a result, time spent interviewing has decreased, and interviewers have improved their ability to assess candidate skills. “I use BrightHire to make sure that I am hiring the right person,” said Yvette. “I re-watch interviews and the highlights from conversations with candidates. Watching it a second time helps me truly determine who is the right candidate to move forward and ensures that I am not pushing people through the funnel who shouldn’t go through. It helps me and my team avoid costly mis-hires.”
BrightHire also created pipeline flexibility across the MURAL team. In several instances, when a better fit was available elsewhere in the company, key candidates were moved to open roles with different hiring managers. Rather than starting again from scratch, the new hiring managers were able to quickly pick up the interview process where the last interviewer left off. The team was able to hire valuable new talent that may have otherwise been passed on, while maintaining an exceptional candidate experience.
MURAL was able to scale its hiring with efficient interview reviews while maintaining hiring quality. MURAL grew from 300 people to over 800 people in one year while avoiding mis-hires along the way.
